| Apartment Investment and Management is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust primarily focused on the multifamily sector within the continental U.S. Co. through a wholly-owned subsidiary, is the general partner and directly is the special limited partner of the Aimco OP L.P. (Aimco Operating Partnership). Co. conducts all of its business and owns all of its assets through the Aimco Operating Partnership. Co. owns or leases a portfolio of real estate investments focused primarily on the U.S. multifamily sector. We show 60 historical shares outstanding datapoints in our AIV shares outstanding history coverage, used to compute AIV market cap on those dates. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing share price, and the resulting changing AIV market cap history over the course of time is important for investors interested in comparing AIV's market cap history versus its peers. Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much.
