iShares 1-3 Year Credit Bond ETF (the “Fund”) seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of U.S. dollar-denominated, investment-grade corporate, sovereign, supranational, local authority and non-U.S. agency bonds with remaining maturities between one and three years, as represented by the Barclays U.S. 1-3 Year Credit Bond Index (the “Index”). The Fund invests in a representative sample of securities included in the Index that collectively has an investment profile similar to the Index. As of Feb 28 2015, the Fund's total assets were $11,680,664,295 and the Fund's investment portfolio was valued at $111,311,036,492. We show 652 historical shares outstanding datapoints in our CSJ shares outstanding history coverage, used to compute CSJ market cap on those dates.
Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing CSJ market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing CSJ's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
and then calculating their respective market caps. Comparing the share price of CSJ versus a peer is one thing; comparing
CSJ market cap versus a peer is a completely different story.
Furthermore, via fluctuation both in per-share price and in the number of shares outstanding (via issuance of new shares over time, the repurchase of existing shares),
the market cap for a company like CSJ can fluctuate over the course of history.
