iShares MSCI EAFE Value is an open-end management investment company. The Fund seeks to provide investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the MSCI EAFE Value Index. The Index is a subset of the MSCI EAFE Index and constituents of the Index include securities from Europe, Australasia (Australia and Asia), and the Far East. The Fund generally invests at least 90% of its assets in securities of the Index and in depositary receipts representing securities of the Index. As of Jul 31 2015, the Fund's total assets were $2,972,736,153 and the Fund's investment portfolio was valued at $2,963,141,870. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing EFV market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing EFV's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
and then calculating their respective market caps. Comparing the share price of EFV versus a peer is one thing; comparing
EFV market cap versus a peer is a completely different story.
Furthermore, via fluctuation both in per-share price and in the number of shares outstanding (via issuance of new shares over time, the repurchase of existing shares),
the market cap for a company like EFV can fluctuate over the course of history.
