EQM Midstream Partners operates, acquires and develops midstream assets in the Appalachian Basin. Co. provides midstream services to its customers through three primary assets: the gathering system, which delivers natural gas from wells and other receipt points to transmission pipelines; the transmission and storage system, which delivers gas to local demand users and interstate pipelines for access to demand markets; and the water service system, which consists of water pipelines, impoundment facilities, pumping stations, take point facilities and measurement facilities that support well completion activities and collect flowback and produced water for recycling or disposal. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing EQM market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing EQM's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
and then calculating their respective market caps. Comparing the share price of EQM versus a peer is one thing; comparing
