Farmland Partners is a real estate investment trust. Co. is an internally managed real estate company that owns and seeks to acquire farmland located in agricultural markets throughout North America. Co. owns farms in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Virginia. Majority of Co.'s owned portfolio is used to grow primary crops, such as corn, rice and cotton, with the balance is used to produce specialty crops, such as almonds, citrus blueberries, and vegetables. Co. provides a loan program pursuant to which it makes loans to third-party farmers. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing FPI market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing FPI's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
and then calculating their respective market caps. Comparing the share price of FPI versus a peer is one thing; comparing
