Five Star Senior Living operates senior living communities, including independent and assisted living communities and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). Co. has two operating segments: senior living communities, in which Co. operates for its own account or manages for the account of others independent living communities, assisted living communities, continuing care retirement communities and SNFs that are subject to centralized oversight and provides housing and services to elderly residents; and rehabilitation and wellness, which provides therapy services, including physical, occupational, speech and other therapy services, in the inpatient setting and in outpatient clinics. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing FVE market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing FVE's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
