Sutherland Asset Management is a real estate finance company. Co. acquires, originates, manages, services and finances mainly small balance commercial loans (SBC loans). Co.'s segments are: loan acquisitions, which represents Co.'s investments in SBC loans, real estate acquired in settlement of loans, mortgage backed securities and equity securities traded on public exchanges; SBC conventional originations, which originates SBC loans via loan origination channels; small business administration (SBA) originations, acquisitions and servicing, which acquires, originates and services loans by SBA; and residential mortgage banking, which originates, sells and services residential mortgage loans. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing SLD market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing SLD's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
