Market Vectors Semiconductor ETF is an open-end management investment company. The Fund seeks to replicate the price and yield performance of the Market Vectors U.S. Listed Semiconductor 25 Index. The fund normally invests at least 80% of its total assets in securities that comprise the benchmark index. The Semiconductor Index is comprised of common stocks and depositary receipts of U.S. exchange-listed companies in the semiconductor industry. Such companies may include medium-capitalization companies and foreign companies that are listed on a U.S. exchange. As of Sept 30 2013, the Fund's total assets were $262,149,307 and its investment portfolio was valued at $262,096,966. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing SMH market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing SMH's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
