iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (the “Fund”) seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of U.S. Treasury bonds with remaining maturities greater than twenty years, as represented by the Barclays U.S. 20+ Year Treasury Bond Index (the “Index”). The Fund invests in a representative sample of securities included in the Index that collectively has an investment profile similar to the Index. As of Feb 28 2015, the Fund's total assets were $10,520,346,384 and the Fund's investment portfolio was valued at $10,488,449,372. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing TLT market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing TLT's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
and then calculating their respective market caps. Comparing the share price of TLT versus a peer is one thing; comparing
TLT market cap versus a peer is a completely different story.
