TransUnion is a global information and insights company. Co. provides solutions that enable businesses to manage and measure credit risk, market to new and existing customers, verify consumer identities, mitigate fraud, and manage call center operations. Co. manages its business in three reportable segments: U.S. Markets, which provides consumer reports, actionable insights and analytics to businesses; International, which provides services similar to Co.'s U.S. Markets segment to businesses in select regions outside the U.S.; and Consumer Interactive, which provides solutions that help consumers manage their personal finances and take precautions against identity theft. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing TRU market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing TRU's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
and then calculating their respective market caps. Comparing the share price of TRU versus a peer is one thing; comparing
