The Toro designs, manufactures, markets and sells turf maintenance equipment and services; turf irrigation systems; landscaping equipment and lighting products; snow and ice management products; agricultural irrigation systems; rental, specialty and underground construction equipment; and residential yard and snow thrower products. Co.'s segments are: Professional, which markets and sells its products through distributors and dealers, and directly to government customers, rental companies, and retailers; and Residential, which markets and sells its products to homeowners through outdoor power equipment distributors and dealers, retailers, home centers, and online (direct to end-users). Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing TTC market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing TTC's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
