The Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund is an open-end management investment company. The Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund (the “Fund”) seeks to provide investment results that, before expenses, correspond generally to the price and yield performance of publicly traded equity securities of companies in The Materials Select Sector Index (the “Index”). In seeking this objective, the Fund uses a replication strategy. As of Sept 30 2015, the Fund's total assets were $2,118,161,325 and the Fund's investments portfolio was valued at $2,093,350,057. Understanding the changing numbers of shares outstanding, the changing
share price, and the resulting changing XLP market cap history over the course of time is important for investors
interested in comparing XLP's market cap history versus its peers.
Many "beginner" or "novice" investors will look at one stock trading at a price of $10 per share and another trading at
a price of $20 per share and think the latter company is worth twice as much. Of course, that is a completely meaningless comparison without also knowing how many shares outstanding there are for each of the two companies,
